Tiger in ChitwanMost people know and come to Nepal for the highest snow peaks in the world, the famous trekking routes and the interesting culture in Kathmandu valley but they don't take the time or miss the opportunity to visit the southern lowlands of Nepal, especially the "Chitwan National Park", to discover a completely different aspect of the country.
Created in 1973 and listed as a "UNESCO" world heritage site since 1984, "Chitwan National Park" (malaria free since 1960) is situated in south-central Nepal, just five hours bus journey from Kathmandu or Pokhara and is renowned to be one of the best in Asia. Its 932 sq km are home for a number of endangered species and mammals such as wild elephants, one horn rhinoceros, monkeys, four types of deer, sloth bears, gaurs, fresh water dolphins, leopards, hyenas and the famous Royal Bengal tiger. There are also reptiles including crocodiles, snakes, turtles and lizards, colourful butterflies and about 529 species of birds which make Chitwan a paradise for the specialists. The variety of flora is amazing too. It goes from tall grasslands with lakes to Sal forest with twisted vines. The indigenous people "Tharus", their almost unchanged way of living and their traditional houses can alone make the journey to Chitwan worthwile and will remind you of some parts of Africa.
The adventure began three years ago when i (Adrian the swiss guy) ended in this resort as a simple tourist. I met Deepak who just came back from Europe after two years spent in Germany and six in Barcelona. At this time, I was already away from my country for almost two years and I wasn't really looking forward to go back. Deepak was also looking for some way to work in Nepal and stay close his wife and children.
At this time, the resort 's owner, who is also Deepak 's brother, decided to give up this business and concentrate on his other company. Deepak and i immediately saw an opportunity and decided to take over together. This was in march 2007. After that, i went back to Switzerland to sell and cancel my last things and came back to Nepal in september to start this project. After three years of hard work and patience (everything takes a lot of time in Nepal) we could totally transform this place to make it confortable and clean .We now get the fruits of our work as many guess really enjoy their stay with us and recommend us to many other travellers .
Our philosophy is to put our guests's satisfaction as the first priority. Therefore you will find at our resort very clean rooms for very reasonable prices. Our food is very good value too and it is the same with our packages programs. If you compare, you will find out that we provide more activities for the same price or even cheaper than most other resorts. Deepak or me are always in the resort to make sure everything runs smoothly.
We have got ten rooms with private bathroom and a dormitory built in traditional bungalows around a lovely garden setting full of flowers and trees between which you can rest on a hammock. Listed below are our different type of rooms to suit all budgets. All our rooms are equiped with mosquito nets on each bed.

How to get there
There are few daily tourist buses from Kathmandu to Sauraha. It takes around six hours to complete the 180 km journey because the roads are in bad condition. You can get a ticket in any hotel or travel agency. There is also a tourist bus from Pokhara and one from Sunauli at the Indian border. They both take around five hours to get to Sauraha bus station where one of our staff is always waiting to pick up our guests.
There are few daily flights from kathmandu to Bharatpur (25km away from our resort). We can organise a transport from the airport to our resort. There is no flight to other destination.
By bus / rafting / bus
You can also include a few hours rafting in your journey to Chitwan. The same tourist buses will drop you at the starting point on the "Trishuli" river if you come from Kathmandu and on the "Seti" river from Pokhara. The rafting companies will organise transportation to bring you to Sauraha from the ending point. We can also arrange everything for you.
By bus / trekking
It is also possible to come to Chitwan by trekking in the "Chepang hills". It takes three to five days to complete this trail. This trek is very interesting because of the home stays. You can discover an authentic and unspoiled life style. Click on the "Siraichuli trek" button on the homepage for more details.
Chitwan is a malaria free district since the 1960's already so the risk to get this disease is very low in the region. You must also be aware of tics and leeches after the monsoon but, unlike those found in Europe, they don't transmit any disease.
There are a few ATM machines in Sauraha village but they are sometime not very reliable in times of load shedding. The exchange rates are not very good so bring enough cash. We don't have a credit card payment system but we accept Euros or US Dollars at the same rate than the local money changers.
Weather in Chitwan
October to March is the "dry" season. The days are sunny and warm but the nights can be cold (6-7°C) and there is a thick fog until 9 to 10 o'clock in the morning. March to May is the hot season (35 to 40°C during the day and 25 to 30°C during the night). There are sometimes thunderstorms with strong winds and heavy showers in the afternoon or during the night. June to October is the rainy season. During this period, you can expect some showers almost every day.
What to bring
You can choose your clothes according to the season and weather but dark colours and long sleeves are better for jungle activities. For the shoes, runners are better than big boots because the jungle is flat and sometimes very hot. We don't recommend sandals to avoid cuts and leeches bites.
You can also bring insect repellent, a hat, binoculars, etc..., but the most important is to bring yours smile.
