RAK Airways is the national airline of Ras Al Khaimah, one of the seven states in the United Arab Emirates. After ceasing operations in 2009, the airline relaunched in 2010 with a new livery and under new management.
RAK Airways was established under Emiri Decree No: 3/2006 issued by H.H. Sheikh Saqr Bin Muhammad Al Qassimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, in January 2006. The airline is a private joint stock company incorporated in the RAK Investment Authority Free Zone. RAK Airways’ Chairman is Sheikh Omar Bin Saqr Al Qassimi and Sheikh Salem Bin Sultan Al Qassimi is the airline’s Vice Chairman and Captain Mohamed Saleh Al Sam, Member of Board of Directors and CEO of the airline is John Brayford.

RAK Airways was founded in 2006 and launched operations in early 2007 with two Boeing 757-200 aircraft. Boeing and RAK Airways signed a 1.6 billion dirham deal for four 737-800s, with further purchase rights, for delivery from 2011. The carrier was hard hit during the financial crisis of 2007-2010 and ceased operations in 2009.
In 2010 the airline announced that it wnder be resuming operations with a "value-for-money" business model, aiming to position itself between full-service and low-cost carriers. RAK Airways is the first Middle Eastern airline to actively use social media, engaging with its passengers via Twitter and Facebook.
In February 2011, it was revealed that RAK Airways was planning on launching flights to between five and nine new destinations. Though it acknowledged the difficulty of securing slots at several of the destinations due to rival carriers in the UAE, it announced that it was finalizing a codeshare agreement with an Asian carrier and that it would also be increasing the size of its fleet.
