Hotels & Guest House in Rajbiraj, Saptari, Nepal
Rajbiraj, a mid-sized town in south-eastern Nepal, 18 kilometers north of the Indian border. It is the administrative headquarters of the Saptari district. It has an airfield with flights to Kathmandu. It is well connected to Nepal's cross-Terai "east-west" highway that runs about 10 km north and east from the main town area.
Rajbiraj is the one of the few cities that was given the status of municipality when Nepal's monarchy was restored in the 1950s. It is also the headquarters of the Sagarmatha Zone, as well as Saptari district.
Saptari District, a part of Sagarmatha Zone, is one of the seventy-five districts of Nepal, a landlocked country of South Asia. The district, with Rajbiraj as its district headquarters, covers an area of 1,363 km˛ and has a population (2001) of 570,282. Saptari is renowned for its agricultural output, and is bordered on the east by the massive Sapt Koshi river. Significant towns are Rajbiraj, the district centre, Hanumannagar, and Fattepur with the area government "Matsya Palan Kendra" fish farm. The famous Chhinna Masta Hindu temple and Kankalini temple are also located in Saptari District.
Located around 18 kilometers north of the border between India and Nepal, the town of Rajbiraj is the administrative headquarters of both the Saptari District and the Sagarmatha Zone in Eastern Region of Nepal. Rajbiraj has an airfield which receives domestic flights from Kathmandu and the town is connected to the highway crossing the fertile Terai region of Nepal, referred to as the cross-Terai highway.
It is not uncommon to see assorted livestock wandering down the wide open streets of Rajbiraj as the town's inhabitants go about their daily business. However, this apparently laid-back atmosphere contradicts the fact that the town has a well-established infrastructure including local government offices, forestry department offices, a number of educational facilities and hospitals for the Saptari District. In fact, Rajbiraj is one of the few towns in Nepal that was given municipality status in the 1950s when the country’s monarchy was restored. Located around nearby is the Hindu Raj Devi Temple which attracts devotees from far and wide to this charming town in the Eastern Region of Nepal.
